I have no idea where the FTP server is and how to access it.

I can 'login' using Open in Microsoft Frontpage and typing in the URL, but I can't find a login button in Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, this is driving me nuts!!!

It's in a file called FTP Locations on my computer but I can't find it anywhere.

OK... it works on other computers (opens up like a folder) but not on mine (it just displays FTP root and lists everything as a directory). Is this anything to do with Service Pack 2? Is ANYONE else having this problem, seriously I WILL HACK into Internet Explorer to add a login button to the bloody toolbar if I have to...

It used to open like a folder, but now it just says 'Index of ftp://ftp.earthforge.com/' displaying everything as a list, and when you right click, its the same as on a website.

You have to upgrade to at least IE 5.5 (I think). Login & folderlike usage is only
supported in these version (i.e. Upload).

If you don't need uploads do:

password AT host.com:21" target="_blank">ftp://username:password AT host.com:21

this should get you logged in.

(replace username, password and host.com with your information).

Be aware that IE stores passwords in historyas PLAIN TEXT!!!

Better use a REAL ftp program.

Ahh... someone disabled 'Enable folder view for FTP sites' under Internet Options > Advanced. Its still not working, but I haven't restarted yet, I'll do that now. BTW, another thing I installed around this time was Java 2, could that have anything to do with it?

Another thing, do you really need ALL the files, $NtServicePackUninstall$, ServicePackFiles and SoftwareDistribution in C:\WINDOWS? Honestly, what kind of program needs half a gigabyte EACH of installation files, running files and (get this) UNINSTALLATION FILES! :roflol: I didn't know it took that much space to store the information required to remove something from your computer...

you can remove the folder $NtServicePackUninstall$ (it's used only if you want to uninstall the service pack) but not the others, its what make windows NT stable: if a stupid program tries to replace some system files by its owns windows autaumatically restore the good one from ServicePackFiles.

SoftwareDistribution is used by WindowsUpdate, so you should keep it.

I can't upload anymore.

It says I exceeded the quota but I only use ~1 MB. I even deleted 3 MB before
so that there should be enough space but it still complains.

I only wanted to create a folder so this should not be a problem but it did not work

!!?!? :?

Maybe your host started an anti-Internet Explorer propaganda and restricted ftp access to non-IE user only, lol, just joking :D . I know this is not IE because I had the same problem with other FTP clients. I can delete files, but I cant add any :( .

I know it might take a while but I have a little question about hosting: do you support things like PWSPHP (a webportal) and PHPBB2 (forums)? Also if it support it will my forum/website have sql errors like on EPS forum? Because I am thinking about re-separating Omnimaga forum from Epic Programming Studios one because it crash too often. Omnimaga need a stable forum. In the meantime I am looking for new hosts for the forums

you could use another host, but you probably wont get as good a deal as i give... ive never been able to figgure out why MySQL on my server is a bit unstable, but it seems to be better of late, i havent seen one of those errors this month.

but the answer is yes to all of the above, you can put in a forum but it will be down when EPS is down and vice versa... but like i said, it seems better now.

So I guess if I implement a PHP website on the server witha SQL database it will crash like the forums? Hmm yeah I guess it's the SQL problems that make the server slow down because most other earthforge websites with no SQL database run very fast (I can open a 200 KB page with 30 animated calc screenshots in less than 10 seconds, which is impossible with most other free web hoster) while the EPS forum are very slow. Right now they are fine but you should have come on them saturday during the morning, during the evening and during sunday morning, it took like 5 minutes to load each page and the_unknown_one had to delete some of my posts that duplicated over 20 times  . Do you know if they will fix those problems?

As for SQL errors, I've seen them happening every friday during the evening this month, making the forums unavaliable during 5 PM and 9 PM. From 5 to 7 approximately it said it was unable to connect to the database and between 7 and 9 PM it said that it was running out of avaliable memory. Maybe they could increase the server RAM... uh WAIT they alerady have 3 GB DDR-RAM
