How hard would it be to reverse-engineer Convert.g3a and see if we can get a CAS addin to give extra functions to Run-Mat mode? This actually seems to me to be ideal, since then we could have access to the functions in all modes.

This is just an idea, I realize that actually reverse-engineering the addin could end up being more difficult than it sounds...

Has anyone got this working yet? ;)

I think Run-Mat mode itself has extra care about convert.g3a, that is, Run-Mat itself has some code in it related to convert.g3a so it may not be possible to extend it the way we want. However this is purely my thoughts.

As for the original question, if what I think is correct, reverse-engineering convert.g3a is not enough to find how it works.

Do you know of anyone who discovered something newer anywhere?

I posted a similar thread on cemetech, and the main idea seems to be that the convert addin simply activates a convert function in run-mat. It was probably made that way so teachers could easily disable it in tests.

However, no tests have actually been made on the g3a besides opening it with a hex editor.
